June has been very bumpy, and we’ve held back somewhat as we wait for the real direction of the market to emerge.

There are two camps:

  • One fears inflation will rise up like a Phoenix from the 1970s and bring about a correction in the order of 10% to 15%.
  • The other sees inflation as a transitory force from pent-up demand and economic recovery following Covid — after which the Fed and other banks will still need to support the patient with expansionary monetary policy.

Both camps are fine for us, though the first would create significant opportunity to take a more aggressive approach. And maybe even pick up a bargain or two that, in the long-run, could keep pace with inflation.

Like all investors, we are the mercy of Mr Market. But within that jungle, we are continuing to find quality assets that should deliver income and growth over the long-run.

Overall, for the month of June, we are up 0.23% across the composite portfolio (total aggregate return across all portfolios following the strategy). And we are up 14.62% since the start of the year — which, if annualised, suggests a potential return of 29.23% p.a.

Though, once again, I need to point out that much of this high level comes from recovery from the March 2020 Covid disaster.
