Well, I want you to take a look at the two images above:
- The first image is of President Donald Trump’s official signature.
- Meanwhile, the second image is of the CBOE Volatility Index — more popularly known as the VIX.
Now, the VIX is an interesting instrument. It’s considered a ‘fear index’. This is because it actively measures the stock market’s expectation of volatility:
- According to the VIX, the biggest spikes of fear over the past 20 years have happened during three distinct time periods — the Global Financial Crisis in 2008; the Covid pandemic in 2020; and tariff turbulence in 2025.
- We already know what happened in 2008 and 2020. The fear was oversold. The media coverage was exaggerated. And that created buying opportunities for courageous investors.
- So, is the latest spike of fear in 2025 going to be much of the same?

- Is this just a superficial coincidence? Or…is there something deeper happening here?
- Well, I’m sure that psychologists might have a field day here, trying to explore the depths of Trump’s subconscious. No doubt, it’s a minefield of controversy, isn’t it?
- However, as rational investors, our goal is not to pass judgement on anyone’s sanity. Instead, our goal is to develop a clear-eyed understanding of the current financial landscape. It’s about being balanced and fair.
- To do this, I want to look at 3 Urgent Signals that might just provide clarity for the road ahead…
